The word "Aegishjalmur" is derived from two Old Norse words: "aegis," meaning "shield," and "hjalmr," meaning "helmet." Viking warriors carved the symbol between their eyebrows to protect themselves from their enemies as they marched into battle. However, this symbol provided more than just "physical protection."
